From Fifteen to Eighteen Chefs

Do read this article. It's about an eatery in Eastpoint, Simei, run by the only Singaporean to have trained in Jamie Oliver's restaurant Fifteen, and dedicated to helping ex-convicts start a career in food.

Prices are reasonable. (: Click here for their menu. They offer discounts for cheese baked rice if you're a student, so 9 bucks or so will assure you a satisfying, well-prepared meal. Let's say I'll definitely be back.

Make your first visit to support their cause, and subsequently for their food.
Oh, and service is great too. We aren't even paying service tax, only GST.

How can one get so addicted to a game? It's just nuts. She would tell her kids to take a hike just so she won't disappoint a bunch of pixels belonging to someone from a distant country she doesn't know. And if (not when) she finally gives it up, she throws a fit for another hour. She'd storm off, think of something to say, and come back. Usually, it's just the "I'm your mother so I have the right to be unreasonable" stuff. Then she wonders why I like spending more time outside.

I swear, if I ever become a parent, I'll use no more authority than I'll need. Neither should you, whoever's reading this.

Funny thing is, I liked my mother a lot more before she started to glue her eyes to the computer monitor. In a span of two years she's developed to spending more time on this thing than my siblings and I combined. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It's just that she forgoes what little other responsibilities she has. Soon, we'll be able to do without her. It's a horrible thing to say, but it's true.

Please don't get me wrong. I love her loads, so I want the best for her.

Third day of sem 2.2! Weirdly, the holiday mood is already dwindling. This has never happened so quickly before. =x must be how I haven't rested at all this hols. HAHA. Oh yeah, and my timetable's great. Fridays off, so long weekend, every weekend! See, God blesses. God is high.

Anyway, looked up déjà vu in Wikipedia.

Déjà vécu refers to an experience involving more than just sight, which is why labeling it as "déjà vu" is usually inaccurate. The sense involves a great amount of detail, sensing that everything is just as it was before and a weird knowledge of what is going to be said or happen next. Translated literally as "already lived".

Sounds exactly like what I keep experiencing. Like when something occurs and I'm like "Didn't this happen a few days back?" HAHA. Creepy. Déjà vécu is only one of the three major kinds of déjà vu. See the Wiki for more.

I give Max Payne 1 out of 5 stars. Illogical, confusing from start to finish, and basically unfriendly from the viewpoint of one unfamiliar with the video game. What a waste of 6 bucks.

A 30 second post!

Hello! Been super busy these few days with work and stuff. Being busy feels gooooood. Anyway, nothing's going on so there's nothing to post about. Maybe I can post about WHY there's nothing to post about? Okay, so there are two reasons:

- there's nothing going on.
- something has gone on but I can't recall it now.

So there. Sorry if anyone is reading and is disappointed.

Singapore's service standards need to improve, anyhow. I thought of this during work. It's in the nature of Singaporeans to expect the most out of people serving at the frontline. It's kiasu-ism. They want the most out of everything. Who wouldn't? Every man for himself after all. That's Singapore in a nutshell.

But what has that got to do with service standards? See, since everyone wants the most out of you, GIVE IT TO THEM.

"Nah, why should I? I'm being paid this much no matter how nicely I treat them, what."

I'll tell you why. BECAUSE you're being PAID to give them good service. When you signed your contract, you signed up for verbal faeces from the patrons. You signed up to handle rude, inconsiderate and unreasonable people. You signed up to give these people the best service possible. All at $x an hour. Basically, your contract stated something along these lines:

Because I'm signing up to be in the service industry, I, [insert name here], hereby agree to be treated like a mule throughout my stint here by random people I don't know and will never see again, and to take all this shit with a smile.

SO GRIN AND BEAR IT. You being paid to grin and bear it. Hope this encourages you. It's really as simple as this. Did you think the people at the other side of the counter don't have the right to scream at you for no good reason? They do. And you have the right to shut up, listen, and perform service recovery. That's trying your very best to quench the patrons' insatiable thirst for better service than they deserve, when they feel they're getting worse service than they deserve. The customer is right and sovereign, even when they're wrong.

Work is so much more fulfilling when angry customers leave happy.

Yesterday, having to sit through two birthday songs with all eyes on me were terrifying. The food court manager told us to hush, but they insisted on singing the Chinese version of the song too. As if I understood. :) At least I didn't have to entertain any sabo requests. HAHA.

YES AH!

Watched Bangkok Dangerous yesterday. I loved all the action, the twists and how the main character's hidden characteristics started to show slowly throughout the film. Still, Nicolas Cage is my idol, so I may be a bit biased.

...

Okay, very very biased.

Anyway, I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 11% approval rating. So there you go.

Finally, I get a chance to blorrg.

Wanna work more this holiday, so I can stop asking my mum for cash. HAHA. Yeah.. Been asking until super paiseh. :T But all the managers I'm familiar with are dropping like flies, transferring or resigning. I CAN HEAR GV TIONG BAHRU CALLING MY NAME! Does anyone else hear it too? :D

So the managerial tremors continue. Gonna have to commit at least 3 days a week, or at least 14 hours. I'm all fine with it, but some won't be able to commit so much when school reopens. I'd liked the job so much because of its flexibility, but that's going out the window soon.

Waiting to see how all this transpires. It's like the storyline of a good drama series!

The leaders have come back! CG this Friday. Had to cancel my request, luckily I didn't have to ask Sandy personally, since I hardly know anything about her and she may refuse. Manager Wayne let me stick a note in her drawer. Wonderful Wayne, his last day was yesterday. He left us all a personalised present each.

Anyway, hope the guys have learned lots and are eager to share their learnings with the rest of us commoners LOL.

Yesterday, first-ever Tuesday caregroup! And the end of Gerald's first thirty days in Christ.
You won't see this, but keep growing, brother. God will use your life in a great way, to shout His glory to all of Singapore, and beyond!

CG only managed to get going at 2130, but thankfully none of us were really tired out. Everything was more or less smooth. Faithful people gathering to meet each others' needs, and to worship the Lord Almighty!

After that, some of us stayed to spend the night at our dear CL's place, where chaos ensued. HAHA! Hilariousness.

Then sent our leader and potential leaders off at the world-class Chang-aye Airport! Joyce, SQ and -deep breath- CHUA!
The leaders of our church gathering in Hong Kong over the next week, HK is gonna explode.

Of course, students are required to reschedule to accommodate for the inconvenient timing.
That's 1100-1300 for tutorial, and 1800-1900 for test.

Exams are in three weeks!
And I probably won't start studying anytime now too.
U-Theatre presentation is tomorrow.
After that, hibernation for a few days.
Thank God there are only three papers.

Watched Dark Knight again yesterday.
It was even better the second time, and I got to understand the plot more.
If you haven't caught it yet, please do.
"Why?", you ask?
Because:

the film has broken MULTIPLE box office records
it has achieved a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes
some associated with the production of the movie has had misfortunes befall them after the movie was released.
- Christian Bale was arrested last month for alleged verbal assault on his mother and sister
- Morgan Freeman was seriously hurt in a car crash this past Sunday
- Heath Ledger died from an accidental prescription drug overdose in late January.
- some technician dude who worked on the movie died recently
so have a heart, watch the movie! :)

It was stolen. Deep regrets.
But praise God it went after I handed in my last project.

Thank God for this experience.
Sure, this lesson was probably the most expensive one I've had to bear.
I lost my parents' trust. But I'll earn it back.
I lost my parents money. I'll have to make it up to them.
They were so nice about this. And I praise God for that, though it made me feel a little worse about it.
I took something away from this. Like how to be more careful with my stuff. And how not to be so naive. I thought it was safe just because it was school.
~~Surely this lesson could have been taught another way...?~~ But God lets everything happen for a reason.

I'll have to see how all this pans out. Updates when I get the chance.

OH EM GEE I'M DEAD TIRED.

First time doing floor operations during a gala premiere, and it was exhausting.
Got to see many many celebs! (Vivian Lai <3) And saw Elim Chew, CEO of 77th Street, and powerful businesswoman of God.

Anyway, I've watched little bits of Money No Enough II here and there, and it looks pretty good. It follows the typical Jack Neo format:
